Our work
Remand reform
Campaigning to end years-long pre-trial detention and the misuse of “holding charges”.
The problem
Two in three people in Nigeria’s custodial centres are awaiting trial. Holding charges and court delays keep people inside for years without a verdict, at huge cost to them, their families and the state.
What we do
We campaign to reform the remand system: faster case reviews, an end to holding charges, and enforcement of the time limits in the Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.
